The Independent newspaper reported that through the "Meta Superintelligence" lab, Zuckerberg aims to develop artificial intelligence programs that exceed human intelligence and integrate them into all company products such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The new "Superintelligence" lab will also work on improving the models that power the Meta AI feature across the company’s various applications, according to the same source.
Alexander Wang, Meta's Chief AI Officer, will lead the new "Superintelligence" lab team.
The CEO of Meta expects the company to reach the boundaries of superintelligence within about a year.
Media reports stated that Zuckerberg has tried to attract a number of prominent AI researchers by offering them large sums of money.
The CEO of OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, said that Zuckerberg offered OpenAI employees up to $100 million to join his company.
Indeed, several OpenAI experts have joined Zuckerberg's superintelligence lab, alongside experts from Google and Anthropic.
In an internal memo addressed to employees, Zuckerberg said these new talents will help deliver a super-personalized intelligence experience to billions of users.
Zuckerberg wrote in a Monday memo published by CNBC: "With the rapid pace at which AI is advancing, developing superintelligence has become our focus. I believe this will mark the beginning of a new era for humanity, and I am fully committed to doing whatever it takes to lead Meta to be at the forefront in this field."
He added: "Meta is uniquely positioned to bring superintelligence to the world. We have a strong business supporting the building of computing capabilities far beyond what smaller labs can achieve, and we have deeper expertise in building and scaling products that reach billions of people.
