AI-Powered Job Platform Developed… OpenAI to Compete with LinkedIn
The new platform, called OpenAI Jobs, will use artificial intelligence to connect qualified talent with companies seeking employees, potentially putting the company in direct competition with Microsoft-owned LinkedIn.
Microsoft is one of OpenAI’s largest investors, having invested around $13 billion in the company, although it officially described OpenAI last year as a competitor in the fields of search and advertising.
Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, stated on the company’s official blog that the platform will not only be dedicated to attracting talent for large corporations but will also provide a special pathway to help local businesses and governments find the AI expertise needed to better serve their communities. The platform is expected to launch by mid-2026, according to a company spokesperson.
In addition, OpenAI plans to launch a new professional certification program as part of OpenAI Academy, an online educational platform that trains employees on how to leverage AI in workplace environments.
The program will offer accredited certificates at various levels of AI proficiency, ranging from basic workplace applications to advanced specialties such as prompt engineering.
These courses will rely on ChatGPT’s “Study Mode”, which transforms the bot into a tutor that asks questions, provides hints, and gives feedback instead of giving direct answers.
These initiatives come amid concerns about AI’s impact on the job market. Companies like Salesforce have announced layoffs linked to digital transformation, while recent studies show that some jobs are at risk of disappearing due to automation and the spread of AI technologies.
Conversely, Lightcast, a labor market data company, has found that roles requiring AI skills offer higher salaries compared to traditional jobs.
Simo emphasized that AI is a “disruptive” force that will change the nature of jobs and companies in the future, but she stressed that the solution lies in helping individuals acquire AI skills and connecting them to new job opportunities.
The company noted that it is already collaborating with major organizations such as Walmart, the largest retailer in the United States, to integrate these certifications into their training and professional development programs. OpenAI also aims to provide certifications to approximately 10 million Americans by 2030.
