Meta first introduced AI translations for Reels in August, supporting English and Spanish. The feature not only translates the spoken language but also uses AI-driven
lip syncing to match the translated audio with the creator’s mouth movements, creating a more natural viewing experience.
According to Meta:
“Many creators want to reach global audiences, and their feedback helped shape our translation tools. With Meta AI, creators can seamlessly translate and dub Reels, breaking down language barriers and connecting with more viewers worldwide. With multilingual translations between English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi, creators can now share their content across some of the largest Reels markets.”
The inclusion of Hindi is particularly significant, as India now represents the largest user base for both Facebook and Instagram—surpassing the U.S.
The feature allows creators to maintain their authentic tone and voice, while offering the option to enable lip syncing for a more realistic effect. Although the sync might look slightly off at times, the technology remains impressive and provides a powerful way for creators to reach new audiences in different regions.
Meta also ensures transparency with every translated Reel marked as
“Translated with Meta AI.” Users can choose whether to watch the original version or the translated one by adjusting settings in the three-dot menu.
This update marks another step toward making Reels a truly global medium—helping creators cross language barriers, expand their fanbase, and connect with audiences worldwide.
