Google Turns “Gemini” into a Shopping Hub with In-Chat Purchases

With this update, users will be able to complete instant purchases directly داخل Gemini chat conversations without leaving the app, using approved payment providers. This move streamlines the journey from product discovery to checkout into a single, seamless experience.

The initiative was unveiled during the National Retail Federation conference in New York. In a joint statement with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Walmart CEO John Furner described AI-powered agent-based commerce as “the next major phase” in the retail industry.

Google’s move comes amid intense competition with OpenAI and Amazon to dominate the “smart shopping” market. OpenAI previously introduced in-chat checkout within ChatGPT in collaboration with Walmart and other retailers.

According to Salesforce, artificial intelligence influenced nearly 20% of global retail sales during the holiday season, highlighting the rapid pace of this shift. Google stated that the service will launch first in the United States, with global expansion planned in the coming months.
