Anthropic has announced an update to the memory system in its AI assistant, Claude, unifying the memory used across conversations and the Claude Cowork feature. This allows Claude to retain information it learns in one context and use it in the other.

Claude Remembers More: Anthropic Launches New Memory Update

The update lets users view the information Claude has stored in its memory, with the option to edit or delete it. This makes it easier to move from research to working on projects without having to explain the same details to the assistant each time.

Under the new system, Claude begins adding topics to its memory during a conversation rather than waiting until the conversation ends to summarize them. This allows information to be updated and shared between conversations and Cowork more quickly.

Anthropic said Claude will not, by default, store personal or sensitive information such as health data, race, religious beliefs, political views, or gender identity, unless users choose to enable the option to save sensitive topics. Users will also be notified whenever such information is saved.

The company also confirmed that Claude will never store certain types of information, including government identification numbers, Social Security numbers, criminal history, and immigration status, as well as information that violates its usage policies.

The new memory feature is available by default to Free, Pro, and Max subscribers on the web, desktop, and mobile. iOS and Android users need to update the app to the latest version.
